Air sampling/High Sensitivity Smoke Detection SystemsHigh sensitivity smoke detection systems are the best type of smoke detection systems that are available. Unlike passive spot type smoke detectors like you would typically see on a standard building fire alarm system high sensitivity smoke detectors are active smoke detectors. The smoke detectors themselves are wall mounted inside a protected space. CPVC air sampling piping is installed from the wall mounted detector to air sampling points that would be located at the ceiling, in a raised floor cavity, and or at the return air grilles of an air handling unit.
High sensitivity smoke detectors have an aspirator in them and they constantly draw air in at the air sampling points, through the CPVC air sampling piping, back to the high sensitivity smoke detector to be analyzed. The fact that high sensitivity smoke detectors are active smoke detectors makes them the best choice to detect smoke in high airflow environments. Instead of waiting for smoke to reach them like a standard spot type smoke detector the aspirators in high sensitivity detectors draw in air providing the earliest possible warning of a potential fire. In addition, these detectors are thousands of times more sensitive than standard spot type detectors and offer multiple programmable smoke obscurations pre-alarm and alarm levels to provide an early warning of a fire situation.
High sensitivity smoke detectors are suited to be used as part of a building fire alarm system or for automatic release of clean agent fire suppression systems. Applications include Data Centers, Server Rooms, Telecommunication Facilities, Atriums, Rack Storage Facilities, Anechoic Chambers, MRI equipment rooms, and any other application where spot type smoke detectors could be used.
